Saint Mary's University Accommodations info for GA2012 (10 Apr 2012)

Single and Double Dorm Rooms:

Our Loyola Residence is a 22-storey high-rise with four elevators. Within this building are single and double dorm style accommodations. The traditional residence rooms are divided into four suites per floor. Most suites have one double room, four single rooms, washroom and shower facilities. Bedrooms are furnished as study rooms with a captain's-style single beds, desk with hutch, lamp, chair, closet space and telephone (free local calls). All residence rooms are provided with linen and towels.

Two and Three Bedroom Apartments:

In our Rice Residence, a 17 story high rise, there are six furnished apartments per floor. An apartment consists of two bedrooms or three bedrooms, kitchen, small living/dining area and bathroom. Each bedroom is furnished with two captain’s style single beds (one bed per bedroom in three bedroom apartments), desks, shelves, lamps, drawers, closet space and telephone (free local calls). One apartment can house up to four people (up to three people in a three bedroom apartment). All linen and towels are supplied but dishes and kitchen utensils are not. There are two elevators in this residence.

2012 Accommodation Rates:

Single Room $ 49.95 (sleeps one)

Double Room $ 79.19 (sleeps two)

Two Bedroom Apartment $ 119.95 (sleeps four)

Three Bedroom Apartment $ 119.95 (sleeps three)

** Rates are inclusive of tax, breakfast, parking, wireless internet access and a gym pass for those over 16 years of age.

GANS AGM and call for Board nominations

The 2012 Annual General Meeting of the Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia will be held on June 13th in the McNally Theatre, Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia from 12:30 to 13:30.

The meeting is open to all members of GANS. Members can register to attend at: http://gans.ca/news-events/events?eventId=447092

The GANS is presently accepting nominations for Board positions. If you are interested in participating in GANS at the Board level, please contact the Committee at: board@gans.ca.

The conference will take place June 12-14, 2012 at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Let’s celebrate 25 years of successful geomatics conferences in Atlantic Canada!

Dr. Robert Fournier, Science Columnist, CBC Radio Information Morning has been confirmed as the Keynote speaker on the opening day.

EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF DIRECTIONS MAGAZINE SPEAKS AT GA 2012 (27 Apr 2012)

Adena Schutzberg is Executive Editor of Directions Magazine and contributes to its widely-read electronic newsletters, website, podcasts and blogs.

Her speech onGeospatial Trends Worth Watching (and Some to Ignore) is sure to be a "crowd pleaser" and will spark conversations at GA2012 and for some time to come.

Before joining Directions Magazine, Schutzberg founded and edited GIS Monitor for nearly five years. She is also the Principal of ABS Consulting Group, Inc., a GIS consulting firm providing services to clients including GIS software, data, and imagery companies. Before opening her own company, Schutzberg headed U.S. operations for UK-based Cadcorp, and held several positions at ESRI over eight years. She began her career heading Arthur D. Little’s CAD/GIS lab and teaching college geography. She holds a BA in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and an MS in Geography from Pennsylvania State University.

ELAINE MACEACHERN TO ADDRESS GA 2012 FROM ASIA:

Elaine MacEachern is currently the Asia Pacific Regional Manager for IFC’s financial infrastructure secured lending product and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. In a unique move, GA 2012 will hear from her live from her base in Jakarta. Her experience spans areas in both the public and private sectors within governments, consultancies, development agencies, and international funding institutions including the World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank, Inter- American Development Bank andthe Caribbean Development Bank.

This is sure to be a presentation with depth and well grounded experience to share. Elaine was a former Registrar of both Land Titles (immoveable) and Personal Property (moveable) for the Province of Nova Scotia, so her return (even via Skype) is still a

rerun home of sorts.. Of interest to many us, lovers of travel, is her experience in countries such as Bhutan, Barbados, Canada, China, Ghana, India, Lao, Kenya, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Trinidad Tobago,

Uganda, and Vietnam.
