Occupation:

  • Marine Geologist and Geomatics Specialist with Canadian Seabed Research

After high school, I attended Acadia University. I was unsure of my major when I enrolled, but quickly realized how much I enjoyed my Geology classes. I graduated with an honours degree in Geology, but felt I wanted to further my education. A classmate told me about the Marine Geomatics Program at COGS, and I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I began working at Canadian Seabed Research immediately after graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Marine Geomatics, and spent much of the first 3 years working offshore and in the field. I’ve been with CSR for 10 years now, and my background in geology and geomatics is a great combination for this career.

The first major project I participated in was a geophysics research cruise in the Canadian Arctic, studying the ocean floor. Field work has taken me all across Canada and to Alaska. I’ve been involved with all aspects of marine survey, data interpretation and map creation. While in the office, I interpret data from all over the world, georeference the results, and provide maps of seafloor features. Our company has done some very interesting projects, from pipeline routes to shipwrecks! Because of my interest in geology and geography, I see pieces of the Earth few people get to see.
