This week’s spotlight features Murali Raju, Research Associate with Applied Geomatics Research Group.
Q: How do you use geomatics within your career?
Mapping analysis and overlaying different layers to get information in forestry like tree heights, tree species, biomass, carbon, tree density.
Q: How did you get involved with geomatics?
A big fascination towards space led me to take remote sensing in my masters and by the time of graduation I learned how spatial information can provide solutions in environment, utilities, municipal works, transportation and many others. Since then, I have worked in the field for the past 7 years in sectors like coastal oceanography, utility, WebGIS, mobile GIS applications and forestry.
Q: What do you see changing in geomatics over the next decade?
Automation and AI tools where the tasks can be completed just with a prompt, the entire analysis can be done automatically with AI Agents with very minimal manual intervention.
Q: What has been your favourite project to work on?
Mobile GIS applications for field data collection in forestry.
